New Zealand
This single family house is located on a spectacular site overlooking the Tasman Sea on New Zealand’s north island. The design breaks-down the home’s discreet functions into a series of interconnected volumes, reducing the visual scale of the house and proving a sense of intimacy to each space. The volumes are stitched together by a continuous folding roof, creating a soft dialogue between the sloping land and the roof profile. At night, the house reads as a string of lanterns held together by a tracery of gable roofs.
Collaborating intimately with our client, we developed numerous volumetric iterations of how a gable roof could be expressed and abstracted.
“Studio Terpeluk envisioned our NZ dream home in 2020. Their creative partnership and process of iteration was an enjoyable journey for my partner and me. Of particular note is the flexibility that Brett and his team demonstrated during the formal exploration stage. Their endeavor culminated in a range of inspiring concepts, bringing maturity to this exciting project.”
