Wattis Institute

Howard Fried, iconic 1960’s Bay Area conceptual artist, produced a series of artworks entitled Derelict (1974-83).  Derelict examines and distorts scale and perspective through the vehicle of two commonplace objects: the teacup and coffee table.  Studio Terpeluk was commissioned by the Wattis Institute to work directly with the artist to resurrect and execute the never-completed installation of Derelict V.  We collaborated closely with Mr. Fried as if in an archeological excavation, unearthing the original massive teacup from a warehouse and digitizing sketches and blueprints of primitive computer models in order to realize the work with the exacting precision mandated by the artist.
